The seeds of today's institution were planted in 1950, when the bank was originally founded as Union County Bank in the mountain town of Blairsville, Georgia. The physical journey in Rome began at 307 East Second Avenue, where a dedicated banking facility was constructed in 1974 by the Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of Rome (established in 1922). As a community "thrift" institution, Home Federal’s primary mission was helping local families secure residential mortgages. In the early 1990s, following national deregulation, it transitioned into a full-service institution known as Home Federal Savings Bank.

The Seamless Transition: First Union & First Floyd Bank (1990s)

In the mid-1990s, the institution was acquired by State Mutual Insurance Company, which grew the bank's profile before orchestrating a transition to First Union National Bank. When First Union later restructured its footprint to build a new facility on Turner McCall Boulevard, the East Second Avenue property was acquired by 1st Floyd Bank. This coordinated corporate handoff ensured the building never sat vacant, providing uninterrupted service to downtown depositors.

The Modern Era: United Community Bank (1999–Present)

In 1999, the fast-growing United Community Bank officially entered the Rome market by purchasing 1st Floyd Bank for $7.1 million. By 2001, the 307 East Second Avenue branch was fully integrated under the United Community banner, cementing its long-term presence in Floyd County.
