Position Overview
Shorter University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Social Sciences invites applications for qualified instructors to teach undergraduate psychology courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong disciplinary expertise, effective teaching ability, and a commitment to student learning aligned with the institution’s mission.
Primary Teaching Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate psychology courses such as:
- General Psychology
- Developmental Psychology
- Abnormal Psychology
- Deliver instruction consistent with approved course outcomes and departmental expectations
- Use student-centered, evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Maintain regular communication with students (including timely response to inquiries)
- Submit grades, attendance, and required assessment documentation by institutional deadlines.
Institutional & Professional Responsibilities
- Support learning outcomes assessment and accreditation processes as requested.
- Adhere to institutional policies (e.g., FERPA) and academic integrity standards.
- Contribute to a positive learning environment that supports student success and retention.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Doctoral degree in Psychology or related field, or
- Master’s degree in Psychology, or
- Master’s degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Psychology.
Additional requirements:
- Agreement with Shorter University’s Mission, Lifestyle Statement, and Statement of Faith.
- Graduate transcripts documenting relevant coursework (official transcripts required upon hire).
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated content expertise appropriate for undergraduate instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience teaching undergraduate courses (face-to-face and/or online)
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas)
- Commitment to engaging, and ethical teaching practices
Work Environment
- Courses may be delivered in face-to-face or online formats.
- Teaching assignments are based on departmental needs and enrollment.
- Adjunct faculty play a key role in supporting student achievement and academic quality.
